Open Question: I'm so frustrated with with all these rules and fees! Where can I find a site?

Is there any place close to MD where you can go camping, have a campfire, not see anyone or hear anything but the people you're camping with? I loved it as a child in Wyoming. We'd load up the van, drive out to the mountains and pitch a tent next to the river, cook our meals over a fire and listen to the coyotes at night.
